Tyson Tinnion
Following a career in the Police Service, brought to a premature end due to serious illness in 1989, Tyson rekindled his interest in woodwork but in a discipline not previously explored.
Woodturning would provide therapy and enjoyment as well as an achievable challenge without the stress. It has proved to be a part-time pleasure.
He acquired basic woodturning equipment and is, largely, self-taught but he did undertake a course to iron out a few problems in hollow-form turning through restricted openings with Melvyn Firmager, a master of the art of hollow form turning.
Tyson is now happy with his level of competence yet will strive to improve. Perfection is the goal. He turns a wide variety of articles and is able to sell them at local craft fairs. However it is his ambition to specialize in the production of 'gallery' pieces.
In National competitions he has achieved one first place in the hollow form category and two bowls have been placed second.
