David Mawdsley

David and Stephanie Mawdsley design and make beautiful furniture to commission as well as producing pieces for exhibition.  The majority of the furniture they make is designed specifically for the needs of their clients and they are able to make pieces in whichever style the client requires.  They work closely with their clients to finalise details of their designs. 
 
They  source their timber from managed forestry and prefer to work in European and North American hardwoods such as oak, ash, maple, elm, rippled sycamore and American black walnut.
 
David studied Furniture Design at Loughborough University, and has taught design and worked in the furniture industry before he established Mawdsley Williams with Stephanie whose expertise is in designing and making textiles. Stephanie’s sense of form and space is translated into structural integrity by David.  David’s skill in shaping and joining wood, using traditional cabinetmaking techniques, produces structurally sound pieces of furniture.  They are currently exploring ways of incorporating Stephanie’s embroidery and textiles into their furniture.
