Marion Bradley was born in Darwen Lancashire in 1946. She worked in textile design for 6 years before moving to Ambleside in the Lake District with her husband the artist J. Ingham-Riley in 1969. She spent a lot of time walking on the Lancashire moors and later, after meeting her future husband, was introduced to the joys of walking and climbing in Cumbria, Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales. Largely self-taught she began painting the landscapes around her shortly after moving to the Lake District. Working mainly in oils and acrylic, she likes to paint the flowers in the summer months when the general views are a bit cabbage green, the flowers bring a welcome flush of colour to the scenes around her. She is particularly attracted to a low viewpoint, "a Rabbits eye view so to speak!" In winter she likes to paint the lakes and farms in the valleys around her. If the weather is bad for long periods then Still Life becomes the subject. Marion has had many joint exhibitions with her husband Jim at the Wolf House Gallery over the years, and has also taken part in numerous other exhibitions in Lancashire and Cumbria. Marion was elected membership of the Lake Artists Society in 1983, and is a founder member of the Ambleside and District Art Society formed in 1974, and is currently their President. She is also an honorary member of Lancaster Art Society. Her work is in many private collections both here and abroad.
