Jane was born in Sheffied South Yorkshire in 1957, the eldest of six girls. Ever since she can remember she has been interested in art. In 1975 she attended Rotherham College of Art and completed a Foundation Course, before going on to gain a BA Honours in Fashion and Textile Design at Trent Polytechnic Nottingham. In March 1973 Jane visited the Lake District for the very first time and on returning home she announced to her family that one day she would live in the Lakes. Some 9 years later she fulfilled that dream. The Eden Valley in now her home, where she lives with her two teenage daughters. It is now 11 years since Jane’s first exhibition with Diane Gainey. It was an incredible boost for her at such an early stage in her career. In 1971 Jane was invited to join a group of local artists and together they founded the Viridian Gallery in Keswick. In late 2002 Jane was approached by the owners the Whistler's Gallery based in Gloucestershire to stage a one-man show, which was a personal challenge for her having just recovered from two tragedies. This was again a success. In September 2004, Jane was approached by Ron Ablewhite and David Cemmick of The Watermark Studio based at Wetheriggs Country Pottery to be a guest artist for just three months. Fifteen months later and much to her delight she was asked to become a partner in the gallery. Watercolour is a medium that Jane genuinely loves and finds very challenging and exciting. It took her several years to master this wonderful medium, but once she gained confidence it brought a new discipline to her work. Jane’s current subject matter ranges from strikingly colourful gardens and ponds to vibrant highly detailed single bees.
