When asked what her favourite painting subject is - landscapes, flowers, animals, portraits, cars and motorbikes etc - Christie says the only answer she can give is - the one she's working on right now. Such is her enthusiasm for painting that she can't wait to start on her next picture. A self-taught artist, Christie reads extensively, and is constantly experimenting with new techniques and materials. Her style is mainly representational, and sometimes required to be very detailed. When someone commissions a portrait of, say, their Racehorse, or perhaps a painting of their motorbike, they expect every detail correct, not just a rough impression. Her love of animals and nature shows in her work, which is constantly evolving; and she often likes to work in a looser style too. An enthusiastic member of Darlington's two Art Societies, Christie likes to paint outside whenever work allows. She says, "Working outdoors brings a freshness to your painting. The weather and time constraints often force you to work quickly, and in a looser style" Although she works mainly in Watercolour and Acrylic, Christie uses most other mediums too - Oils, Pen and ink, Scraperboard, and Pastel; making her choice according to the subject, and the effect she is trying to achieve. Christies paintings depict many different subjects - from Landscapes to animals; from flowers to motorbikes. Her Painted Stones are usually 'snapped up' by enthusiastic buyers. Stones and cobbles are chosen by shape to allow her to paint them as animals. Each one is an original, as no two stones are ever alike.
