Marilyn was born in Yorkshire, and has been painting for many years. She started painting in Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast studying with the late Fred Williams. It was here she developed her loose technique, using watercolour. Moving to the Lake District in 1982 began her love of mountains. Sketching all the time while climbing everything in reach, she was not the most popular walking partner! She was always lagging behind – but it has set her in good stead now for reference, in addition to painting outdoors. The top of the fells, and the edges always draw her attention, especially when there is that special break in the cloud, giving magic to the landscape. Gentle colours and subtle tones are very much her style. In addition to her studies with Fred Williams, Marilyn has learned much from her friend, Jill Aldersley, so sadly missed. She has attended courses with Ashley Jackson in Holmfirth and David Bellamy from Builth Wells, Wales. She is a member of the Windermere Art Society and the Ambleside and District Art Society and exhibits in most of the local Art Exhibitions.
