Phil Entwistle was born in 1953, grew up in Lancaster and now lives in Yorkshire. His love of hill-walking brings him often to the Lake District. Largely self-taught, he has been active in drawing, painting and photography since at school. In 2007 he gave up employment in order to concentrate on his career as a professional artist.

His main interests are the rural landscapes of northern England and especially the Lakes. He works in pastels, watercolour, oils, mixed media and photography. He likes to explore the possibilities of colour and rhythm in the form of the land under changing light, weather and season. Recurring themes in his work are a sense of place and the balance between man's influence and the wildness of the natural world.
