Jubilee Events in Thornthwaite
Jubilee Exhibition
The exhibition will feature jubilee themed work. It will run from 28th May to 5th June.
Artists who normally soak up inspiration from the mountains and meres have turned their attention to Her Majesty. In oils, watercolours, pastels, acylics - and even glass - images associated with the Queen are being created. They will be shown in the exhibition with visitors asked to choose their favourite. The top choice will be offered to Buckingham Palace as a jubilee gift.
Thornthwaite Village Church Flower Festival and Open Gardens
The gallery will be joining with Thornthwaite Village in the celebrations.
There will be a Jubilee themed Flower Festival in St Mary's Church, Thornthwaite on 2nd and 3rd June from 10am to 5pm. Entrance is free and a donation is requested to support Hospice at Home. To conclude the festival there will be "Songs of Praise" in the church from 6:30pm on the Sunday.
Also, throughout Thornthwaite on Sunday 3rd June (1:00 to 6:00), there will be a number of open gardens. In addition to admiring the varied rural gardens, you will be able to see a model steam railway, sit and relax with refreshments, view the Osprey nest through a telescope, purchase plants and cakes or see how one of the villagers has solved the fuel problem with a water turbine driven by beck water. Entrance to all gardens is £5 in support of the work of the MS Society.
Exhibitions & Demonstrations
Our schedule for 2012 is now complete and can be found under Exhibitions
Returning Artists
We are pleased to welcome back Venus Griffiths, who had other commitments last year and was unable to exhibit at Thornthwaite.
We also welcome back Lake Artist, Vivienne Pooley, who has not exhibited at Thornthwaite for many years.
Gallery Changes for 2012
We have installed a new lighting system, enabling viewing of the work under much improved conditions. The system is fully LED, dramatically reducing our demand on electricity.
We are, at present, planning to move into web sales. These will be essentially of repeatable work, such as art and photographic prints, jewellery etc.
A "Virtual Gallery" has been set up - a high quality flat screen display in the teashop area. On this we display the extensive ranges of art and photographic prints of current exhibitors (where space constraints mean we currently only exhibit a limited range). All displayed items are available to order through the Gallery for collection from the gallery or delivery.
Winter Closure
During the winter closure, art work is returned to the artists. Therefore, when we reopen, the gallery is fully refreshed with new work brought in, in early February, by the artists.
