Geoff Marsters

The source and inspiration of Geoff’s work is in beauty seen and experienced in ‘ordinary’ things. It is about a sense of place and unique relationships within a particular motif. It is about giving visual form to the structures underlying detail. Movement and rhythm, light, space and colour, form and tone are the elements of this visual translation.

Geoff is a professional painter and works in oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolour.  His usual method is to make many drawings directly from the subject and then use this material as a basis for studio work.

At various times Geoff has studied at Cambridge School of Art, Bath Academy of Art and the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris.  His paintings hang in many private and corporate collections including Couthaulds, the Forestry Commission, ICI, Barclays Bank, Rabobank Nederland, Mitsubishi Bank of Tokyo Ltd.

Group exhibitions include The Laing Collection and The Pastel Society.

In addition to Thornthwaite Galleries, solo exhibitions include The Finland Trade Centre London; Clare Hall Cambridge; The John Russell Gallery Ipswich; The Conservatory Gallery Cambridge; The Bow House Gallery Barnet; Upfront Gallery Cumbria; Sharp Edge Gallery Keswick; Percy House Gallery Cockermouth; The Mitsukoshi Gallery London.
